Description:

Composed of 33,000 acres of land, most of which is preserved as a designated wilderness area, Bandelier National Monument features soaring rock cliffs, beautiful natural forests and ancient ruins. Frijoles Canyon is the most popular of these archaeological areas, accessible via a 1.2-mile round-trip path and highlighting restored sites of its ancient inhabitants. The Tsankawi area is another popular destination, with an ancient village, petroglyphs and more difficult exploratory paths. Located about 43 miles by car from Santa Fe, the monument provides campsites and also allows backcountry camping for its more adventurous guests.

Trails open daily dawn - dusk.
